Recoop Disaster Insurance

If your area is hit with a natural disaster, Recoop can help you get back on track by paying a benefit directly to you – to use however you choose.

Here's what you need to know

Recoop is the first and only multi-peril disaster insurance that pays a lump-sum cash benefit (up to $25,000) after a natural disaster.

Did you know that your homeowners or renters insurance policy may have gaps in coverage that could leave you footing a large chunk of the bill after a natural disaster? That’s where Recoop can help — it picks up where insurance stops, so you can bounce back faster after a disaster.

Once you enroll, you’ll be covered by Recoop for these declared natural disasters:

  • hurricanes (with storm surge)
  • wildfires
  • tornadoes
  • earthquakes
  • gas explosions
  • winter storms1
  • dust storms

No deductibles. No loopholes. Just really fast recovery cash you need to move forward after a disaster strikes.

There are limitations to coverage. This plan does not cover landslides, tsunamis, fresh-water flooding, or hail regardless of cause. See your policy documents for more detail.

Natural disasters are inevitable. If you need proof, just ask one of the residents of the 80% of U.S. counties who have experienced a weather-related disaster in the last 5 years.2 Living in denial of the risk is costly, but Recoop can help cover the gaps and pick up where your insurance stops.

Even if you have guaranteed replacement with your homeowners insurance, the majority of guaranteed replacement policies are capped based on a home's insured value. This means that the average homeowner may be on the hook for as much as 20% of their home's value because policies are based on market value, not replacement cost.

Besides offering financial protection, Recoop is a breeze to use:

  • Simple: file a claim in minutes with a quick call or a few clicks
  • Fast: cash is typically deposited in your account within 24-48 hours3
  • Flexible: no restrictions on what you do with your recovery cash

Don’t miss out on critical protection for your home with this affordable way to bounce back faster after a disaster.

  • How much does coverage cost?

Your rate takes several factors into consideration, including your location, the level of risk in your region and the coverage amount you choose. Rates are subject to change from time to time.
  • transition circle icon
  • What if my employment status changes?

Good news! If you leave or retire from your current employer, you can continue your coverage without interruption (subject to applicable law and the plan’s terms and conditions). Although payroll deduction will no longer be available, you can opt for other payment methods such as direct bank account deduction, and credit card billing. Higher rates may apply.

  • When would my coverage start?

Your coverage is effective 14 days after enrollment.

  • What if I rent?

As long as you live in a state where Recoop is available and you have an active renters insurance policy, you are eligible for Recoop. You must meet the same qualifications following a disaster to receive your Recoop benefit, and damage must be to the unit rented by you, not just the property outside your unit (e.g., building common areas). Damage to your personal property (just not collectibles) counts towards your $1,000 damage threshold. You will receive a renters endorsement with your policy.
  • Home icon
  • What type of damage is required before I can submit a claim?

The home or apartment listed on your policy must have direct physical loss or damage that exceeds Recoop’s $1,000 damage threshold. For renters, this includes damage to personal property as well.

  • How does the claims process work?

After a disaster, you’ll start by calling Recoop at 1-877-2RECOOP (1-877-273-2667) or submitting a claim online. After answering a few questions and submitting photos of your home for proof of loss (they compare these to the photos you upload while setting up your account), they’ll review your claim. If everything is in order, your claim will be approved and you will be paid within a few days.
  • Tornado icon
  • What constitutes a disaster declaration?

Your Governor or the President can declare a state of federal disaster after a catastrophic weather event. There are certain criteria, like per capita damage and resource capacity, that will determine the declaration.

If a disaster is not declared by the state or federal government, Recoop won’t be able to approve your claim.
